Ghana is set to face off against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10th, 2024 in their AFCON 2025 qualifier. However, this matchup holds a unique twist. Sudan’s current head coach, Kwesi Appiah, is a familiar figure in Ghanaian football, having previously managed the Ghanaian national team.

Appiah’s appointment as Sudan’s head coach in 2022 signaled a new era for the Falcons of Jediane. His experience and knowledge of African football have been invaluable in shaping the team’s strategy. Sudan’s recent performances suggest a resurgence under Appiah’s leadership.

This encounter marks the 14th meeting between the two nations, with Ghana seeking to maintain their dominance. These are the current states:

  • Ghana: 8 wins
  • Sudan: 3 wins
  • Draws: 2

Ghana is currently third-placed in Group F with only one point after a draw from Niger and a defeat against Angola while Sudan is second with three points after a defeat by Angola and a 1-0 win against Niger at home.

Ghana’s team has been dealing with some setbacks, including the withdrawal of key players Thomas Partey, Joseph Paintsil, Kingsley Schindler, and Osman Ibrahim due to injuries. However, Coach Otto Addo has called up some talented replacements, including Abu Francis, Jonas Adjei Adjetey, Michael Baidoo, and Ibrahim Sadick.

Sudan will face a formidable Ghanaian team playing on home soil, with the Accra Sports Stadium expected to be packed with passionate fans. However, Sudan’s key players, including striker Mohamed Abdelrahman and midfielder Ammar Taifour, are struggling with injuries, which could impact their performance.

The upcoming match between Ghana’s Black Stars and Sudan’s Falcons is shaping up to be a thrilling encounter, especially given the history between both coaches, Akwesi Appiah and Otto Addo. Appiah, the former Ghana coach, now leads Sudan and plans to guide his new team to victory against his country of origin.

Addo has expressed great respect for Appiah, acknowledging his experience and expertise. However, Addo is under pressure to deliver a win, especially after Ghana’s dismal start in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Ghana has lost at home to Angola and drawn away to Niger, leaving them third in their group.

Can Coach Addo’s players bounce back after the last-minute goal defeat against Angola in Kumasi? Or will Coach Kwesi Appiah’s players get all three points in Accra on 10th October 2024?
