The African Basketball Festival came to a conclusion on Day 3 at the University of Ghana Basketball Court, featuring four exciting matchups and a spectacular trophy lift ceremony in Accra, Ghana, on October 27, 2024

 

Game 1: Basketball School Academy U15 Girls vs Reformers U15 Girls

The future of women’s basketball shone brightly as Basketball School Academy’s U15 Girls defeated Reformers U15 Girls 36-22.

Game 2: University of Ghana 61, Ghana Communications Technology University 32

The University of Ghana dominated Ghana Communications Technology University 61-32, showcasing its collegiate prowess. They controlled both halves of the game.

Game 3: Liberia 45, USA 42 (Third-Place Decider)

Liberia secured third place with a hard-fought 45-42 victory over the USA. Liberia’s Thomas Nyenswah scored 15 points.

Samuel Owusu won the shooting contest and was awarded a cash prize of 200 United States Dollars by the festival organizers. Liberia’s team captain won the dunk contest and took home 300 United States Dollars.

Before the final game, the crowd enjoyed stunning fashion exhibitions and electrifying musical performances by Ghanaian duo Dope Nation and Sierra Leone’s Abizzy.

Game 4 (Championship): Ghana 62, France 49

Ghana asserted their dominance in the highly anticipated final, defeating France 62-49. Ghana’s Samuel Akwasi scored 19 points.

Ghana celebrated its consecutive African Basketball Festival title, lifting the trophy amidst jubilation.

James Amotou of Ghana won the Most Valuable Player award for the second consecutive time, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s top players.
