Cassava Technologies, founded by Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, has announced a partnership with NVIDIA Corp. to establish Africa’s inaugural artificial intelligence (AI) factory. This initiative aims to bolster the continent’s digital infrastructure by providing advanced AI computing capabilities to businesses, governments, and researchers.
Strategic Deployment Across Africa
The collaboration will begin with the integration of NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI software into Cassava’s data centers in South Africa by June 2025. Subsequent expansions are planned for facilities in Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria. This phased approach ensures that AI resources are accessible across key African markets, fostering regional innovation and technological advancement.

Strive Masiyiwa emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “Building digital infrastructure for the AI economy is critical if Africa is to fully harness the potential of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” He highlighted that the AI factory would empower African businesses, startups, and researchers with world-class AI infrastructure, enabling them to transform innovative ideas into tangible solutions without the need to look beyond the continent.
