Johannesburg, South Africa — June 25, 2025
Day 2 of the SAI20 South Africa 2025 Summit opened with focus and formality as Mr. Harold Maloka, Programme Director, welcomed delegates and set the tone for a day of strategic dialogue and resolution.
The session began with Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke, Chairperson of SAI20, presenting the official SAI20 Communiqué — a collective statement of shared priorities and principles. The communiqué was officially adopted by G20 member countries, marking a major step forward in global audit cooperation.
The adoption sparked valuable contributions and dynamic exchanges from across G20 delegations, underscoring the urgency of aligning SAIs with the global governance agenda. The communiqué affirms the role of SAIs in strengthening public trust, enhancing institutional integrity, and contributing to sustainable development.
Survey Analysis: Skills and Infrastructure in Focus
Later in the morning, Keatlegile Ndimande of SAI South Africa presented an analysis of a global SAI survey on the summit’s two focus areas: skills development and public infrastructure. The findings offered important insights into how SAIs are engaging these priorities — and where gaps remain.
The data highlighted areas of progress, innovation, and strategic alignment, while also identifying the need for deeper capacity building and cross-border learning to address systemic challenges.
SAI20 Roadmap for the Future
Following the presentations, Auditor-General Maluleke led the session on the SAI20 Roadmap for the Future, outlining how SAIs can continue driving accountability, especially in the context of the G20’s broader agenda of solidarity, equality, and sustainability. The discussion focused on how SAIs must adapt to evolving global dynamics — from digital transformation and fiscal reform to climate resilience and inclusive development.
Closing Reflections from Brazil and South Africa
President Minister Vital do Rêgo Filho of SAI Brazil delivered his closing address as Troika representative, reaffirming the importance of SAIs as strategic actors in national and international development.
He emphasized that audit institutions must help build confidence, foster investment, and support stable, transparent public systems. Citing the African principle of Ubuntu, he reminded delegates that “none of us will ever thrive alone,” and called for greater unity, shared learning, and collective action to strengthen institutions and reduce inequality.
Finally, Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke delivered the official closing of the SAI20 Summit, thanking delegates for their collaboration and contributions. She emphasized that the summit had not only elevated the voice of SAIs but also demonstrated their relevance as strategic enablers of national development.

A Defining Moment for Africa and the G20
The conclusion of Day 2 marked the end of a successful summit that brought together G20 Auditors-General, global thought leaders, and institutions committed to transparency and progress. As the host country and current G20 Chair, South Africa has positioned itself — and Africa — at the forefront of global governance reform.
