Tottenham Hotspur have secured the services of Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United in a deal worth £55 million, pending the completion of his work-permit application. Kudus has signed a six-year contract that will keep him at Spurs until 2031, stepping into a side under new head coach Thomas Frank.
West Ham had initially placed an £85 million release clause on the 24-year-old, and they turned down Tottenham’s opening £50 million bid just last week. Ultimately, however, both clubs agreed on the £55 million fee. Since arriving at the London Stadium from Ajax in August 2023 for £38 million, Kudus made 65 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, contributing 13 goals and nine assists in top-flight action, and delivering a total of 14 goals across all competitions in his debut season.
Kudus described his move to Spurs as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition to perform “at the highest level,” citing the club’s illustrious history and regular participation in the Champions League as key attractions. He also identified the impact of Thomas Frank who took charge following the departure of Ange Postecoglou as a decisive factor in his decision.
“Seeing how many players he’s developed into top talents made it clear to me that I wanted to work under him,” Kudus commented.
Tottenham are closing in on a second midfield addition, with Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White due to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a prospective £60 million transfer. The double midfield recruitment underlines Spurs’ ambition to bolster their squad depth and creativity following a season in which they narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.
For West Ham, the sale of Kudus represents both a substantial profit on their initial outlay and the loss of a dynamic attacking presence. For Tottenham, however, his arrival signals a renewed commitment to blending youthful potential with established Premier League quality as they aim to challenge on multiple fronts in the coming seasons.
