Accra, Ghana — July 22, 2025
Christ the King International School marked a historic milestone on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with its 69th Speech and Prize Giving Day and the 40th Anniversary of the Class of 1985. The celebration, held at the Christ the King Parish Hall, brought together students, alumni, parents, educators, and distinguished guests under the theme: “Empowering Minds, Achieving Excellence and Building Character in a Digitized Era.”
The event served as both a reflection on Christ the King’s longstanding legacy of academic and moral excellence, and a rallying call for preparing young people to thrive in today’s digital-first world.
Honoring Excellence

Students who had excelled in both academic and co-curricular activities during the 2024/2025 academic year were recognized with awards for their achievements. The much-anticipated awards segment celebrated not only scholastic brilliance but also leadership, creativity, and character.
The Class of 1985, marking its 40th anniversary, took a leading role in sponsoring this year’s event. In an inspiring gesture of giving back, the alumni instituted and presented awards including:
- Best Male Student Award
- Valedictorian & 1st Runner-Up
- Best Female Student Award (Philomena Quiosa Award)

Additionally, the Class of 1985 honored former teachers, the former Assistant Headmistress, and the current Headmistress—recognizing their unwavering commitment to shaping generations of leaders.
Corporate Support for Education

ECOBANK Ghana Ltd. reinforced its commitment to youth empowerment by sponsoring prizes for the best students from Class 6 to JHS 2, with generous cash awards. Their involvement underscored the critical role of corporate institutions in investing in education as a catalyst for national development.
Passing the Torch

In keeping with Christ the King’s rich tradition of alumni sponsorship, the symbolic “Passing the Torch” ceremony saw the Class of 1986 take on the mantle of supporting next year’s event. This gesture highlighted the enduring culture of unity and responsibility that binds the school’s alumni community across generations.
Evelyn Van Der Puije: A Proud Alumna and Trailblazer
Adding prestige to the occasion was the participation of Mrs. Evelyn Van Der Puije, Vice President of The Voice of Africa (TVOA), who is herself a proud member of the Christ the King family. As part of the celebrated Class of 1985, Mrs. Van Der Puije’s presence was a living testament to the school’s mission of shaping not only academic achievers but also global leaders.

Her journey from Christ the King International School to becoming an influential voice in global media, philanthropy, and women’s empowerment is a shining example to the students seated in the hall. Her presence underscored the theme of the day—demonstrating how strong character and education, rooted in faith, can blossom into a lifetime of impact.
Looking Ahead

As the curtain fell on this year’s Speech and Prize Giving Day, one truth resonated: Christ the King International School remains a beacon of hope, molding young people to rise to the demands of a changing world while staying rooted in values that last.

From the applause that greeted awardees, to the cheers for alumni sponsors, and the reverent gratitude expressed by staff, the event was not just a celebration of academic achievement—it was a call to continue building minds, excellence, and character for generations to come.
To God be the glory!
