Senegal is preparing to make history. In 2026, Dakar will host the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) — the first time in history an Olympic event will take place on African soil.
This milestone positions Dakar not only as a continental sporting hub, but as a cultural and economic catalyst for Africa’s next generation.

With the official motto “Africa Welcomes, Dakar Celebrates”, the Games symbolize much more than competition. They represent visibility, investment, infrastructure development, and a new global chapter for African youth.

The Organizing Committee (COJOJ) continues to emphasize that Dakar 2026 is a Pan-African project—a platform for talent, innovation, and international cooperation.

A Global Event Powered by African Ambition

The Dakar Games are designed to meet full Olympic standards, delivering:

  • Over 35 competitive and emerging sports

  • Three host clusters: Dakar, Diamniadio, Saly

  • State-of-the-art facilities including the renovated Iba Mar Diop Stadium

  • Major youth capacity-building programs such as Impact Spark, 3FPT training initiatives, and Olympic education pathways

  • A new generation of African sports ambassadors

The long-term goal is clear:
Make Dakar a permanent gateway for global sport in Africa.

Kalidou Koulibaly Joins as Official Ambassador: A Cultural Turning Point

This week, the Dakar 2026 Organizing Committee announced a major addition to its ambassador roster: Kalidou Koulibaly, captain of Senegal’s national team, AFCON champion, and Al‑Hilal star.

Already a continental icon, Koulibaly brings global influence and a powerful message:
Africa is ready for the world’s biggest stage.

He joins fellow ambassadors Abdou Diallo, Oumy Diop, artist Elzo Jamdong, and Basketball Africa League president Amadou Gallo Fall—forming a multisectoral coalition representing sport, arts, youth, and innovation.

Their role is to elevate awareness, expand youth engagement, and promote Senegal’s leadership as the host of the first Olympic event on the continent.

Youth Development at the Core of Dakar 2026

Unlike traditional sporting events, the Youth Olympic Games prioritize education, entrepreneurship, capacity-building, and inclusive participation.

Key initiatives include:

1. Impact Spark Program

A nationwide movement promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and long-term sports engagement.

2. 3FPT Partnership

A groundbreaking agreement with Senegal’s vocational training authority to provide technical skills, jobs, and pathways during — and after — the Games.

3. National Commission for Data Protection Collaboration

Ensures that the YOG operates with world-class digital integrity, privacy, and operational transparency.

4. Legacy Infrastructure Plan

All venues are designed to remain operational for public use, academies, camps, and future continental competitions.

Why Dakar 2026 Matters for Africa and the Olympic Movement

1. A First in 128 Years of Olympic History

Despite Africa producing champions for decades, no Olympic event had ever been hosted on the continent — until now.

2. A Catalyst for Tourism, Creative Economy & Investment

The IOC estimates a minimum multi‑billion franc regional impact over the next decade.

3. A Showcase for African Talent & Innovation

From tech-driven venue management to sustainable sports infrastructure, Dakar aims to set new standards.

4. A Youth-Focused Vision Aligned With Continental Development Goals

The Games align with Agenda 2063, ECOWAS youth strategies, and Senegal’s own national development blueprint.
