Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced the successful restart of the diesel production unit at the Zallah Field, operated by Zueitina Oil Company, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s energy operations.
After years of inactivity caused by a complex technical malfunction, the diesel unit has been restored to full operational efficiency in a notably short timeframe. The facility is now producing approximately 500 barrels of diesel per day, providing critical fuel support for field operations and ongoing production activities.
The diesel unit had been offline since March 2015, limiting the field’s ability to meet its internal fuel requirements. According to the NOC, the recent rehabilitation effort resolved longstanding technical challenges and allowed the unit to resume output rapidly.
Officials say the restart will enhance operational reliability at the Zallah Field while reducing dependence on external fuel supplies. The move aligns with broader efforts by Libya’s energy authorities to rehabilitate infrastructure, improve efficiency, and stabilize production across the oil sector.
The development reflects gradual progress within Libya’s energy industry, where targeted technical interventions are helping restore capacity following years of disruption. As the country continues to rebuild its oil and gas infrastructure, projects like the Zallah diesel unit restart are viewed as essential steps toward long-term energy security and economic recovery.
