Senegal booked their place in the Africa Cup of Nations final after a hard‑fought 1–0 victory over Egypt, with Sadio Mané scoring the decisive goal late in the match.

The semi‑final, played in Tangier, remained tightly contested for much of the game as Egypt maintained a disciplined defensive shape that limited Senegal’s clear chances. The breakthrough came in the 78th minute when Mané struck from outside the penalty area, finishing into the bottom left corner after an initial effort from Lamine Camara was blocked.

The goal sparked celebrations among Senegalese supporters, with the defending champions having dominated possession but struggling to convert control into goals earlier in the match. Senegal registered multiple attempts through Nicolas Jackson, Habib Diarra, and Pape Gueye, while Egypt struggled to create meaningful chances in open play.

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly’s tournament effectively ended during the match after he was booked early and later forced off with injury. The yellow card, combined with his injury, means he will miss the final. Habib Diarra will also be suspended after receiving a booking for dissent.

Tensions briefly flared when Mohamed Salah fouled Mané, but coaching staff from both sides intervened to prevent the situation from escalating. Egypt’s best opportunity came from a free kick before halftime, while a late effort from Omar Marmoush was saved during stoppage time as Egypt pushed for an equalizer.

With the win, Senegal advanced to the final where they will face either Morocco or Nigeria. The result reinforces Senegal’s position as one of Africa’s most consistent footballing nations, built on structure, patience, and belief.

For a continent where the majority of its population is young and still shaping its sporting identity on the global stage, moments like this reflect more than competition. They reflect progress, continuity, and the steady confidence of African excellence still unfolding, with the future firmly in motion.
