The Africa Business Club at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School has officially announced the date for its highly anticipated 6th annual Africa Business Conference. The event, scheduled for 2025, will bring together students, business leaders, policymakers, and investors to explore Africa’s economic transformation under the theme “Africa Rising: Unlocking Opportunities for the Next Generation.”

Since its founding in 2019 by a group of five visionary students, the Africa Business Club has grown into a robust network of 92 members, all dedicated to fostering meaningful discussions and connections that drive Africa’s business landscape forward. The 2025 conference promises to be one of the most dynamic yet, featuring insightful panel discussions, networking sessions, and a lineup of distinguished speakers who will explore key sectors such as finance, healthcare, technology, and international development.

Ezinne Eke Aso, President of the Africa Business Club, expressed her enthusiasm for this year’s event:

“The Africa Business Conference is more than just a gathering—it’s a movement that highlights Africa’s potential as a global powerhouse. This year, we aim to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders with the tools and networks to drive impactful change on the continent.”

Returning for a second year on the organizing board, Dr. Samuel I. Onwubiko, Executive Member of the Africa Business Club, emphasized the importance of continuity in the conference’s mission:

“Last year’s conference set a strong foundation, but 2025 is about building on that momentum. Africa is rising, and this platform allows us to showcase the innovation, resilience, and opportunities shaping its future.”

Among the many highlights of the conference will be the Diaspora Connect Room, providing a space for Africans in the diaspora to engage with key stakeholders on the continent, and a Pitch Competition, where emerging entrepreneurs will have the chance to present their business ideas to investors. Attendees can also expect a Career Session featuring leading employers in Africa and a Vendors Fair showcasing African businesses.

This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Eleni Gabre-Madhin, is a globally recognized thought leader and serial entrepreneur who has played a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s business and economic landscape.

The conference will also feature Lee-Roy Chetty, the Head of Digital Communications and Engagement at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Lee-Roy has extensive experience in the international public and private sectors, and his team works to elevate IFC’s digital presence, ensuring its relevance and impact across development finance and multilateral platforms.

Additionally, Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and founder of the Sharaf Mahama Foundation, will join the conference. Sharaf has demonstrated a commitment to leveraging sports for youth empowerment and social change, while promoting Ghanaian culture on the global stage.

British A. Robinson, the former coordinator for Prosper Africa, a U.S. government initiative aimed at advancing economic growth across the continent, will also be speaking. With decades of experience in public-private partnerships, impact investing, and capital mobilization, Robinson has driven transformative initiatives that support African businesses and improve livelihoods.

Other notable speakers include Dr. Uche Ralph-Opara, a leading figure in African health and innovation, and Hafeezah Muhammad, a prominent advocate for women’s empowerment and financial literacy across Africa.

As Africa continues to position itself as a major player in the global economy, the Africa Business Conference 2025 will serve as a catalyst for deeper engagement, collaboration, and investment in the continent’s future.
