Libya National Oil Corporation continues to position itself as one of Africa’s most strategically important energy institutions, driving long-term growth through oil, gas, infrastructure modernization, sustainability, and international cooperation.

Founded in 1970, the National Oil Corporation has remained central to Libya’s economic development and energy sector stability while strengthening the country’s role in global energy markets. Today, Libya holds the largest proven oil reserves in Africa, the ninth largest oil reserves globally, and the fifth largest natural gas reserves on the continent.

As global demand for diversified and reliable energy sources continues growing, Libya’s National Oil Corporation is increasingly positioning itself as both a regional energy leader and a long-term strategic contributor to global energy security.

Libya’s Energy Strategy and Long-Term Growth

The National Oil Corporation is pursuing an ambitious strategy focused on increasing production, modernizing operations, diversifying revenues, expanding renewable energy initiatives, and strengthening international partnerships.

Its long-term strategy includes increasing oil production capacity, accelerating gas development, modernizing infrastructure, strengthening environmental sustainability, reducing gas flaring, and investing in clean energy initiatives.

Through its “Think Tomorrow” initiative, the Corporation is also emphasizing renewable energy, environmental protection, oil leakage elimination, and large-scale sustainability projects including plans to plant one million trees and achieve near-zero gas flaring by 2030.

This reflects a broader shift across the MENA region toward balancing energy growth with sustainability and future-ready economic development.

Africa, Infrastructure, and Strategic Partnerships

The National Oil Corporation’s strategy increasingly focuses on international cooperation, regional integration, and long-term infrastructure partnerships.

Its collaborations with global energy leaders including Eni, TotalEnergies, Wintershall Dea, and Repsol demonstrate Libya’s importance within global energy systems while supporting knowledge transfer, technical training, capacity building, and economic development.

The Corporation’s investments in healthcare, education, technical training, water infrastructure, sports, and community development further reinforce its broader social and economic role inside Libya.

As Africa’s energy sector continues evolving, institutions capable of combining natural resources, infrastructure, sustainability, and regional cooperation will play a major role in shaping the continent’s economic future.

TVOA and the Africa–MENA Energy Corridor

As Africa and the MENA region continue strengthening cooperation across energy, trade, infrastructure, logistics, tourism, and innovation, platforms capable of connecting both regions strategically are becoming increasingly valuable.
