Mrwan Mohey Is Helping Turn the Middle East and Africa Into Emerging Forces in the Global Space Economy

As the global space industry accelerates into a new era of commercial competition and regional innovation, Mrwan Mohey is positioning himself among a growing generation of leaders working to transform the Middle East and Africa from consumers of space technology into builders of it.

Entrepreneur, strategist, and ecosystem builder, Mrwan has become known for bridging the gap between advanced engineering and commercial execution, a combination increasingly critical in the rapidly evolving NewSpace economy. As co-founder and chief operating officer of Advanced Rocket Technologies, he is helping lead one of the region’s most ambitious efforts to develop integrated, reusable, and low-cost space launch systems originating from the MENA region.

The company’s vision reflects a broader shift underway across emerging markets, where nations and private ventures are no longer limiting themselves to participation in global space conversations but are actively working to build sovereign technological capabilities. For Mrwan, that mission extends beyond rockets alone. It is about creating sustainable aerospace infrastructure, commercial viability, and long-term regional relevance in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries.

Alongside his work in launch systems, Mrwan also oversees business operations for SpacePoint Egypt, where he leads the expansion of the organization’s “SatKit” satellite workshop programs across Africa. The initiative focuses on democratizing access to hands-on space hardware education, exposing students and young engineers to satellite systems, aerospace engineering, and applied technical skills that have historically remained inaccessible across large parts of the continent.

The workshops have become part of a wider movement aimed at preparing a new generation of African and Middle Eastern engineers to participate directly in the future of aerospace innovation rather than watching it develop elsewhere.

Beyond operations and entrepreneurship, Mrwan has also built a reputation as a mentor and advocate for emerging professionals entering the technology and space sectors. Through the Ambassador of Africa initiative, he is guiding young innovators navigating the rapidly expanding NewSpace industry and building long-term technological ecosystems across Africa and the Middle East.

His influence within the international aerospace community has additionally extended into leadership and evaluation roles, including serving as a judge for the Global Space Awards, where emerging innovations and contributions to the industry are recognized on a global stage.

Mrwan’s work has earned him growing international recognition. In 2025, he received the Young Arab Pioneers Award for his contributions to the launch sector and was also recognized through the Misk Foundation 20 Under 30 Global Recognition program, an acknowledgment reserved for emerging leaders shaping industries across entrepreneurship, innovation, and global development.

The honors reflect a larger reality increasingly visible across the region: the Middle East and Africa are beginning to produce not only consumers of advanced technology but also founders, operators, engineers, and executives actively contributing to the future of aerospace.
