Nigerian music icon Wizkid has etched his name in history once again, becoming the first African artist to surpass 9 billion total streams on global music platform Spotify. This milestone solidifies the Afrobeats superstar’s position as one of the most influential and globally recognized musicians to emerge from the African continent.

The staggering figure includes both his solo hits and collaborations, with notable contributions from chart-topping songs like “Essence” featuring Tems, and the global smash hit “One Dance” with Drake and Kyla which alone has amassed over 2 billion streams. Wizkid’s critically acclaimed album Made in Lagos continues to perform strongly, helping fuel his rise to the 9-billion mark.

This achievement is not just a personal triumph but a landmark for African music as a whole. Wizkid’s consistent global success has played a pivotal role in popularizing Afrobeats worldwide, influencing a new generation of African artists and opening doors in international markets that were once hard to crack.

Following closely behind him in total Spotify streams are fellow Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems, all part of the Afrobeats wave that has taken over global charts, festivals, and playlists. However, it is Wizkid who now holds the crown for most-streamed African artist of all time on the platform.

Fans and industry watchers alike have hailed the milestone as proof of Afrobeats’ global staying power. As streaming continues to shape the music industry, achievements like this highlight Africa’s growing cultural footprint on the world stage.

With more music and collaborations expected, Wizkid shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, his 9 billion Spotify streams mark the beginning of an even more dominant era for the star and for African music as a whole.
