“This is bigger than aviation,” Shanora told attendees. “Ethiopian Airlines represents African excellence, consistency, resilience, and global connectivity. For 80 years, they have shown the world what an African institution operating at the highest level looks like.”

One of the evening’s standout moments came as Ethiopian Airlines USA Country Director Michael Yared addressed attendees before inviting the airline’s USA staff to join him on stage.

Yared received strong praise throughout the evening from guests and travel professionals for his leadership, professionalism, and vision for Ethiopian Airlines’ continued expansion across the United States and Africa.

“For 80 years, Ethiopian Airlines has carried not just passengers, but the story of Africa itself,” Yared said during his remarks. “Our responsibility now is to continue building bridges between Africa, the diaspora, business leaders, tourists, investors, and the next generation.”

He continued: “The future of Africa will be built through connectivity — connectivity of people, ideas, trade, tourism, and culture. Ethiopian Airlines is proud to be part of that future.”

Attendees repeatedly emphasized how Ethiopian Airlines has become one of Africa’s strongest global brands, with many noting the airline’s reputation for consistency, continental reach, and service.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Benalf Andualem of Ethiopia also delivered remarks during the evening, praising Ethiopian Airlines for becoming a symbol of Ethiopian and African excellence globally.

Ethiopian Airlines has become one of Ethiopia’s greatest ambassadors to the world,” Ambassador Benalf said. “The airline reflects the ambition, professionalism, and global vision of our nation.”

A special video presentation followed, showcasing Ethiopian Airlines’ 80 year journey from its founding in 1946 to becoming Africa’s largest airline and one of the world’s most respected aviation brands. The presentation highlighted the airline’s rapid continental expansion, global routes, tourism impact, and role in strengthening Africa’s connectivity with the world.

Rev. Jonathan Weaver also addressed attendees during the evening, speaking on the importance of unity, cultural connection, and institutions that continue opening doors across nations and generations.

“When institutions lead with excellence and integrity for decades, they create more than business success — they create legacy,” Rev. Weaver shared.

Guests from multiple embassies and organizations attended the celebration, including representatives connected to Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Burkina Faso, further reinforcing Ethiopian Airlines’ role as a connector across Africa and the diaspora.

Throughout the evening, guests praised both the professionalism of the event and Ethiopian Airlines’ continued investment in relationships across communities, industries, and nations.

Travel professionals attending the event also spoke highly of the airline’s impact.

“Ethiopian Airlines continues to be one of the most trusted carriers connecting Africa globally,” one attending travel advisor shared. “Their reach across the continent is unmatched.”

Another travel industry representative added: “They’ve built something timeless. Eighty years later and they still represent reliability, African pride, and global standards.”

Two travel professionals were announced as winners during the evening’s raffle drawing, receiving complimentary Ethiopian Airlines flight tickets as the celebration concluded.

Behind the scenes, much of the evening’s coordination and relationship management was led by Ethiopian Airlines USA Account Manager Kathy Hill, whose dedication and hospitality helped ensure the event’s smooth execution from start to finish.

As dessert was served, guests enjoyed one final performance from the Ethio-Dankira dancers before the evening officially concluded with networking, celebrations, and continued conversations around tourism, connectivity, and Africa’s growing global presence.

For TVOA, the event represented more than a celebration of aviation. It reflected the growing importance of African institutions building globally respected brands capable of shaping international conversations around Africa, tourism, diplomacy, and investment.

After 80 years, Ethiopian Airlines continues to prove that African excellence is not emerging — it is already here.
