GWU ASA Presents: Taste of Africa 2024 Celebrating the Theme “ADUNA”

Washington, DC – March 12, 2024 – The George Washington University African Students Association (GWU ASA) is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated annual event, Taste of Africa (TOA) 2024. This vibrant cultural celebration promises to be an unforgettable evening of music, dance, fashion, and culinary delights, highlighting the rich and diverse heritage of Africa within the GWU community.

Event Details:

Date: Saturday, March 30th, 2024

Time: 6:00 PM

Location: GWU University Student Center Grand Ballroom (800 21st St NW, Washington, DC 20052)

Theme:

This year’s TOA theme is “ADUNA,” which means “the World” in Wolof. Inspired by the intrinsic connection between African societies and nature, as well as the cultural significance of African masks, the theme explores the narratives that bind African nature with traditional masks. These masks, crafted from the earth itself, embody the stories and symbols of Africa’s relationship with nature, making “ADUNA” a celebration of identity and tradition.

Performances:

TOA 2024 will feature an exciting lineup of performances, including music, dance, singing, poetry, and a fashion show. Attendees can look forward to captivating performances by renowned dance groups such as GWU XOLA (Afro-Caribbean Dance Team), GWU EESA (Ethiopian-Eritrean Student Association), and UMD Diasporic (University of Maryland African Dance Team). Additionally, the event will showcase the musical talents of Tobby Drillz.

Fashion Show:

Highlighting the diversity of African fashion, the fashion show at TOA 2024 will feature designs from African fashion designers across the United States. Attendees can expect to see a stunning array of traditional, streetwear, and modern Afro-fashion styles on display.

GWU ASA invites the GWU community and the public to join in this celebration of African culture and heritage at Taste of Africa 2024. For more information and updates, please visit our Instagram (@gwuasa) or direct questions to our email (gwuasa7@gmail.com).
