Saudi Arabia has reiterated its firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, underscoring the Kingdom’s position against any actions that threaten the Horn of Africa nation’s stability.

The assurance was delivered by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during a high‑level meeting in Riyadh with Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali, according to a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

At the start of the meeting, Prince Faisal emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the Federal Republic of Somalia, stressing that the Kingdom rejects any developments or initiatives that undermine Somalia’s security or encourage fragmentation.

The talks also focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Somalia across political, economic, and diplomatic spheres. Both sides reviewed avenues for expanding cooperation and discussed key regional developments affecting the Horn of Africa and the wider Middle East.

The meeting comes amid heightened regional sensitivities following Somalia’s concerns over external actions linked to the breakaway region of Somaliland. Last month, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud warned that international recognition of Somaliland could destabilize the region and embolden separatist movements.

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains internationally unrecognized by most countries. Somalia’s federal government maintains that the territory is an integral part of the country and has repeatedly rejected any unilateral recognition efforts.

Saudi Arabia’s statement reinforces its longstanding diplomatic position in favor of national unity and regional stability, aligning with broader efforts to support political cohesion and security across the Horn of Africa.
