Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken a significant step in his career by officially becoming a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards. This membership grants him the opportunity to help decide the outcomes of music’s most prestigious accolades, beginning with the 2026 Grammy Awards.

A “Game-Changing” Milestone

Speaking on the honor, Davido described the development as a transformative moment, both for his career and for African music at large. “Voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season,” he explained in a video message, emphasizing the importance of active participation in shaping the global music landscape.

The singer, known for hits such as Fall, Unavailable, and If, expressed gratitude for the recognition and said he is eager to contribute his voice to the Academy’s decision-making process.

Grammy Journey So Far

Davido’s relationship with the Grammys has been steadily evolving. He made history at the 2024 Grammy Awards with three nominations, including in the Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance categories. Although he did not secure a win that year, his presence marked a major milestone for Afrobeats on the world stage.

In 2025, he received his fourth nomination for Sensational, a collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay. The track was shortlisted in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category but ultimately lost to Tems’ Love Me Jeje. Despite the outcome, the nomination reinforced his role as one of the leading voices propelling African music into mainstream recognition.

Expanding Influence Beyond the Stage

By joining the Recording Academy’s voting committee, Davido is not only amplifying his influence in global music but also positioning Afrobeats and African artists at the heart of industry decision-making. His inclusion signals growing acknowledgment of African music’s impact and ensures that voices from the continent are represented in the conversations shaping the future of international music awards.

With his new role, Davido becomes part of a select group of industry professionals who directly contribute to the Grammy voting process, a responsibility he has described as both humbling and empowering.
